Events at the primary schools in Fuji

先週は、“あなたは世界一格好いいプロジェクト”の活動に参加し、2025年ワールドシリーズが行われた富士市の小学校に行き、イベントを行いました。

Last week, I took part in the “You Are the Coolest in the World Project” and visited primary schools in Fuji City, where the 2025 World Series were held, to deliver the event.

この活動は世の中には障害のある人たちがいて、一見すると出来ないことが多そうな彼らでもいろんなことが出来るんだよ、と伝えるだけではなく、あなたは一人一人が世界一かっこいいんだと伝える活動でもあります。

This project is not simply about showing that there are people with disabilities in our society and that, even though they may appear at first glance to have many limitations, they are capable of doing a wide range of things. It is also about conveying the message that each and every person is the coolest in the world, just as they are.

パラ水泳の特徴の一つに、他の競技に比べ様々な障害を持った選手達がチーム内にいて、選手同士が助け合っているところがあります。

One of the distinctive features of para swimming is that, compared with many other sports, teams are made up of athletes with a wide variety of disabilities, and the athletes support one another within the team.

他競技の関係者に伺うと、他競技では帯同スタッフにサポートしてもらう事が多いのだそうです。

競技によっては、ほぼ同じ障害のある選手達が集まっているチームもありますので、補い合うと言う事が難しい場合もあるのかもしれません。

When I speak with people involved in other sports, I am often told that athletes in those sports tend to receive support mainly from accompanying staff. In some sports, teams are made up of athletes with almost identical types of disabilities, which may make it difficult for athletes to support and complement one another.

パラ水泳では、車椅子の選手が視覚障害の選手を先導し、その代わり視覚障害の選手が車椅子を押してくれたりします。

In para swimming, however, it is not unusual to see a wheelchair user guiding an athlete with a visual impairment, while the athlete with a visual impairment, in turn, helps by pushing the wheelchair.

障害のない人たちでも、それぞれに個性があり得意不得意がありますよね。

Even among people without disabilities, everyone has their own individuality, as well as their own strengths and weaknesses.

何か人と比べて劣っているからといって落ち込まなくて良くて、みんな今のままで十分かっこいい存在であり、困った時はみんなで助け合いながら生きていけばいいんだよ、と言うことが伝わっていたらいいなと思います。

There is no need to feel discouraged simply because you may be less capable than others in certain areas. Everyone is already more than cool enough as they are, and when difficulties arise, it is okay to live by helping one another. I hope that this message came across through our activities.

道中美味しいものも食べ、素晴らしい景色にも出会いました。

Along the way, we also enjoyed some delicious food and encountered some wonderful scenery.
